La Vie en Rose

The pictures following are from Marseille! It was an interesting trip. Where to start... first of all Marseille is kinda sketchy, so we knew if we were getting close to our hotel because of how safe we felt. haha, ok don't worry it wasn't that bad. But another hotel story kinda like Bayeux. We made reservations (keep in mind there were 7 of us) so we show up and the lady tells us we can stay there friday and sunday but not saturday. This puzzled us because we had made reservations and gave her our credit card and everything.. But too bad for us. So we go wandering around town trying to find enough space in a hotel for SEVEN people for the next night. Not only was it the next night, a saturday, but there was also a soccer game. But somehow, we finally found a 1 star hotel that had enough space, and surprisingly, wasn't that bad of a place. It was almost reminiscent of the Absolut Paris (Nathan) in its brothel-esque decoration, but it really was a fine place. So that was the adventure with that.
Chateau d'If was also not like the movie. But I'll forgive it because it was a really cool place. We couldn't actually go below to any sort of dungeon level, so I'm not quite sure what that was like, but we were there so thats all that mattered to me!
After Chateau d'If we went over to another island and saw some freaky hospital ruins. I'm not sure what was so special about those, but the highlight of that island was the swimming. Beautiful water even though it was quite cold. And some pretty tasty tapas.
I really can't remember everything, so like I said in my other post, I'll try to add stories as they come to me!

The first picturesque thing we saw. It has the Musee de Beaux Arts on one side (which I'm pretty sure I wrote my hefty story about already, but I honestly can't remember) and a Natural History Museum on the other. Neither of which we were able to see.

This is the snake we found

Being like the golden girls...

Hillary really wanted a column picture, so after going up and down the giant stairs 5000 times, I posed with her and Katie =)

What you don't know is that we'd been trying to find the Musee de Beaux Arts for forever and that building in the background has a sign that you can't read in the picture clearly saying "Musee de Beaux Arts"

Just a pretty ship in Marseille at sunset.

Our arrival at Chateau d'If. duhn duhn duuuhhhnn

A view of Chateau d'If from the other island we visited.

1- Hillary and I being sad in our cell
2- Hillary and I being happy in our cell

Hillary, Patty, and Rachelle at the top of the chateau

The group

This is actually nothing special because they have multiple carousels in practically every town.

Just a view of Marseille. That's Notre Dame de la Gare on the top of the hill.

I know what you're thinking.. the prisoners had a terrible view. Thats exactly what I thought too.

Pat, Rachelle, Katie, Jean, and Phuong My on our way to Bayeux! Bayeux is a cute little town in Normandie that is about 4 hours away. We made reservations for a hostel before we left and when we got there, the woman at the office de tourisme informed us that they don't send people there anymore because it's "dangerous." She recommended this monestary. So we went to the monestary and ran into a nun and asked her about the hostel there. She then asked if we had called the day before and we said no, but she had recieved a reservation for 6. So low and behold it was her who we had talked to. This was the beginning of our list of freaky Bayeux events. Making reservations with a nun who we didn't think we had called...

Rachelle being creepy inside the creepy monestary.

The freaky monestary where we stayed and the nun hated us. Not only did she rip us off - and by that I mean she didn't charge much but then added for sheets and breakfast- but we paid 4 euros for breakfast and even though we were all on time for our tour (at 8) we got up from breakfast to leave and she informed us that we had to wash our own dishes. For 4 euros. And all we got to eat was bread and jam and tea/coffee. SO we asked if we could do them later because we were in a hurry at this point, and booked it. Any by booked it I mean we grabbed all the bread we could to get our money's worth and then proceeded to run across Bayeux. That's right, the whole town of Bayeux, including across the grass of the cathedral. While we were eating our bread. But, we did make it on time.

From Bayeux we took a "Gold Beach Invasion" tour of the DDay beaches and such which was great because there was only room for 8 on the tour, and there were 6 of us, so we really got to see everything in a small group and talk to the guide.
Katie and I with one of the landing DDay beaches behind us. Also behind are the cliffs that had to be scaled to reach the main part of land.

Me, Rachelle, Patrick, and Jean kinda posing in one of those things

As our tour guide said, there could be bodies and whatnot under all these huge pieces of cement that haven't been moved since they landed after being blown up. Katie and Rachelle thought they'd try to combine their strength.. but to no avail.

We never actually walked on Omaha beach, but that is it behind us. (Kaitie, me, Jean, Patrick, and Rachelle)

Not much to say about this except there were quite a few of them.

The Cimetiere Americain.

We could not for the lives of us remember what those things are called. And obviously I still can't.. but there are a few around Bayeux.

What I don't have any pictures of is the Bayeux tapestry which is pretty cool. I got the story of it pretty much engrained in my head at the museum, but if you don't know what it is you should look it up because it really is amazing.

I also know I'm forgetting some crazy story or another about this trip, so I'll try to remember to write about them on here as the come to mind.

I'm not going to start another entry with "ok" but now I will recap the first weekend trip which was to Annecy- at the bottom of the alps. Pretty sweet trip considering we had to pay 20 euros and were provided transportation and a mini-tour of the tiny town.

Kelsey, Caroline, Hillary, and I with the pretty flowers/river of Annecy.

I just thought the water was really pretty.. Caroline and I rented a little paddle boat for a half hour, which let me just say we were great at driving...

Sundial! This picture was taken in honor of Dad, who is obsessed with sundials.

Just another pretty picture.

ok! First time I've been online on MY computer. I have sooo many pictures to put online I don't know how long this will take, but I'm going to go for it! I guess I'll start from the beginning. I don't have tons of pictures of Lyon, but to give you an idea of where I live

This is the front of Fourviere (with Melissa, Phuong My, and Rachelle). The other side you can see from down in Vieux Lyon at another Cathedral:

Back to up at Fourviere, this is Lyon. My school, or one of the sites, is right on the river to the right there. Voila, I don'tknow what else to say about it, so there ya go!
